A few years ago, I came up with a smoked salmon roll appetizer recipe that I used for a lot of dinner parties. While it’s pretty tasty, it’s also pretty complex to prepare. Great for dinner parties, not so grate for weeknight dinners. So if you don’t have all afternoon to do prep, then this greatly simplified smoked salmon rolls appetizer is for you

Making Smoked Salmon Rolls without Rice

If someone says smoked salmon rolls, what is one of the first words that comes to mind?

Rice.

The great thing about smoked salmon packages is that the smoked salmon is essentially the wrapper. And instead of filling it with rice and a little bit of vegetables, you fill the smoked salmon with all vegetables.

You keep everything in place with a light smear of cream cheese. Use the whipped cream cheese and it’ll be easier to spread. Chop up some fresh dill and a red onion and mix them both in for a big flavor boost.

Smoked Salmon Rolls Step by Step

Making these smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls recipe is about as simple as it gets: lay salmon on a cutting board, spread cream cheese, add vegetables, roll.

First: You’ll find that very few smoked salmon slices will be long enough. You want 5 to 6 inches. So take several pieces and press them on top of each other, with a little overlap, and it’ll work.

Second: Grab a marble sized amount of herb cream cheese with dill & red onion and spread it out on the smoked salmon

Third: Place a couple of pieces of thinly sliced cucumber, bell pepper and carrots on the smoked salmon. If you were to place all of the pieces together, they should be about the diameter of a dime.

Finally: Carefully roll up the salmon from the bottom, pressing firmly as you go. Put the rolls on a separate plate and refrigerate for about half an hour before serving so that they set up.

That’s it! You can make this in as little as 15 minutes and two of them alone is pretty filling.
